Wolverhampton’s Aaron Rai has continued his fantastic form, by qualifying for his first major event, the 117th US Open Championship which will see him compete at Erin Hills, Wisconsin between 12-18 June 2017.
The 22-year-old has also been a fan favourite at the annual Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship at Nailcote Hall for several years.
Rai enjoyed recent triumph at the Walton Health Golf Club which saw him storm home in the final nine holes of the 36-hole qualifier, notching five birdies and an eagle to finish at 14-under – beating his nearest competitor Li Haotong of China by one shot.
Rai told BBC Sport: “It’s a dream come true to play in any major, and with it being the US Open it makes it extra special.”
So far this year, Rai has ascended through the world rankings by 200 places, jumping from 369th to 166th, following victories at the Barclays Kenya Open and the Andalucía Costa De Sol Match Play 9 his first couple of Challenge Tour wins.
Fan favourite Andrew ‘Beef’ Johnston, fellow BP3 star Eddie Pepperell and Matt Wallace also qualified for the US Open, alongside Richie Ramsay, Bradley Dredge and Paul Dunne.
