Aaron Rai triumphs in Hong Kong with first European Tour title win

He may have only been playing in the European Tour for just over a year, but Aaron Rai has now officially earned his place among the Tour’s elite as he triumphed at the Hong Kong Open yesterday!

Taking place from 22-25 November, Hong Kong hosted the first event of the 2019 European Tour season, and Rai could not have had a better start.

It was an event which was a real test of nerve, and skill for the 23-year-old. But, after relishing in a six-shot overnight lead, he held his own on the Sunday and took home an impressive score of -17 and a £260,000 cheque in his name.

Next Rai and the European Tour players will be jetting off to Australia for the PGA Championship where he will be vying to turn his one victory into two and will certainly have his eyes on the prize fund.

The Wolverhampton-born golfer turned pro in 2012 and after much success on the Challenge Tour, including three wins, Rai made his debut in the European Tour in 2018’s season.

Away from the European Tour, Rai has also been a regular at the Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship since he started playing the Cromwell Course as a youngster. And, as the Championship has grown in prestige, he has grown as a pro and continues to play in the UK’s greatest par 3 competition each year.

All of the team at the Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship want to congratulate Aaron Rai on his massive achievement and wish him the best of luck in Australia this weekend.
