Paul Lawrie OBE to star at BP3!

One of golf’s biggest stars Paul Lawrie OBE is having to put sentiment to one side as he gears up to face not one, but two family members at this year’s Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship.

The Lawrie family has bred a line of professional Scottish golfers and during August’s Par 3 tournament at Nailcote Hall, Warwickshire, Paul who has eight European Tour victories to his name, will be going head to head with his son and nephew for the €50,000 prize.

His son Craig, 24, has been a mainstay in the event’s line-up for several years and undeniably has the upper hand of the three when it comes to navigating the venue’s tricky Cromwell Course. Last year he came third in the Pro-Am competition and prior to turning professional he took home the Norma C Herd Silver Salver in 2013 which is presented to the event’s best performing amateur.

Nephew Sean is also no stranger to a par 3 set-up having earned victory in the Farmfoods Scottish Par 3 Championship earlier this year as he continues to excel on the PGA EuroPro Tour.

The two youngsters won’t be given an easy ride as Paul will be taking his uncle and father duties out of the equation for this event, with his sights firmly set on victory.

Paul has set a stellar precedent for the other Lawries to follow in after his rise to fame came when he clinched victory in the 1999 Open Championship. On top of this he played a crucial role in Europe’s victorious Ryder Cup victory in 2012 at the ‘Miracle in Medinah’ and vice-captained Europe at the 2016 Ryder Cup.
