The first groupings have completed their round at Nailcote Hall as the professional championship gets underway in the Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship.
Luke Turbutt and Matt Cort started the day teeing off at 7:00am with their amateurs former Manchester United star Clayton Blackmore and Monday’s Junior Qualifier winner Josh Mulcahy.
And, it was PGA professional Jak Hamblett who took an early lead shooting -2 (52) one shot ahead of Ladies European Tour professional Lejan Lewthwaite, Staysure Tour star Brendan McGovern and American star Tim Thelen all on -1 (53).
In the Norma C Herd Silver Salver, which is presented to the event’s leading amateur, Matt James and Junior Qualifier winner Josh Mulcahy tied for the lead with a score of +1.
In the team event Steve Lewton and Clive Whiting and Brendan McGovern and ex-England cricketer James Taylor are leading the way scoring -7.
Currently the tournament’s first ever disabled professional Mike Browne is out on the Cromwell Course making his debut in the event.
Later today the likes of 1991 Masters winner Ian Woosnam OBE, 1999 Open champion Paul Lawrie, European Tour star Aaron Rai and 2005 U.S. Open winner Michael Campbell will get their bid for the tournament underway teeing off after lunch.
