The meteoric rise of 2013 Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship winner Tommy Fleetwood continued, as the 26-year-old sealed his first European Tour Order of Merit victory.
It brings to an end a fantastic season on the Tour for Fleetwood, with wins in the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship and HNA Open de France coming among nine top 10 finishes as the Southport man has consistently found his form this year.
There was plenty of drama at the final event of the year at the DP World Tour Championship in Dubai, as fellow Englishman Justin Rose battled with Fleetwood for the top spot. Rose looked to be cruising towards the title, leading the pack on the last day in Dubai, before poor back nine saw the Race to Dubai trophy heading Fleetwood’s way, allowing him to celebrate with his partner Clare and newly born son Franklin in the clubhouse.
Fleetwood told Sky Sports: “This is the biggest day of my career for sure. Justin had played unbelievable for three-and-a-half days and it was completely out of my hands after 12 or 13 holes. But it's a massive learning curve seeing that still anything can happen, and it's still definitely not sunk in.
"My ultimate goal in life is to be the best player in the world, that will always be the same. Whether I achieve it or not is another thing, but I'll always strive for that. I think this year has been a big year in terms of my career.”
Fleetwood was not the only former BP3 player to be participating in Dubai this week, with THREE others teeing it up. 2014 Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship winner Eddie Pepperell finished a strong season in T48, with Callum Shinkwin managing T25 place and Graeme Storm coming through in T52.
