Carl Mason wins Super Seniors title

Carl Mason has once again won the Super Seniors competition in today’s Pro-Am at the Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship. Carl finished on +2 after sinking a hole-in-one in yesterday’s first round.

Carl pipped Costantino Rocca to the title after the Italian started the second round in an unbelievable way, managing a glorious hole-in-one with his first shot, immediately followed by a Birdie.

Spectators at Nailcote Hall had seen Rocca finish the first round on the Cromwell Course the day before on +3, putting him in third place in the Super Seniors but nothing could have prepared them for such a superb start today.

After finishing both rounds Rocca was +4 while in third place was D J Russell completing the Cromwell course on +5.

Among the other top players who have finished the course at the time of writing are Santiago Luna, Gary Wolstenholme MBE and Miguel Ángel Martin on -1, Jamie Spence on Par, Sam Walker on +1, Paul Wesslingh on +2, Nick Dougherty on +3, Matthew Southgate on +4 and on +6 Andrew Marshall, Andrew Sherbourne and Alex Peters.

In the team competition, Campbell & Sturrock finished the course on an incredible -10, the same final score as Spalding & Jones and Walker & Hughes. Meanwhile, Mouland & Halliwell and Broadhurst & Mackie are also on -10 but have yet to complete the second round. Just as impressive was the performance by Dougherty & Hayes (featuring Champions’ own Jack Hayes) who finished the course on nine under.

In the Norma C Herd Silver Salver competition, Ricky Sturrock finished on +1 while still to complete their rounds were James Jordan on +1 after 20 holes, Craig Kieswetter on +4 after 18 and Elliot Cook on +5 after 21.
