European Tour and Ryder Cup winner Gordon Brand Jnr passes away

Today everyone at the Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship has been saddened to hear of the death of Gordon Brand Jnr who has passed away aged just 60.

The Scottish star won eight times on the European Tour and was part of Europe’s 1987 Ryder Cup winning team. Gordon also played on the Staysure Tour winning two events and has previously appeared at the Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship.

Since the announcement of his passing this morning many people in the world of golf have come out to express their condolences for his family and share personal memories of the iconic golfer.

21-time European Tour winner Sam Torrance OBE said: “Heartbroken to hear of the passing of Gordon Brand Jnr one of my dearest friends for over 40 years. I will miss you RIP.”

2013 U.S. Open champion Justin Rose MBE said: “So sad. I remember watching him play as a kid for the first time at the BMW PGA Championship and getting his signed golf ball on the 18th hole. #RIPGBjnr.”

And Europe’s successful 2018 Ryder Cup captain Thomas Bjorn said: “When I came on the Tour in 1996, he was one of the men that helped me understand what it was all about. A great man, a great friend and he left us way too early. Thank you Junior for everything! RIP.”
