Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship to support next generation of golfing stars

The Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship is getting ready to support the next generation of golfing stars with its junior qualifier. The qualifier will give young players the opportunity to rub shoulders with the professionals at this summer’s Championship.

This year’s Championship gets underway on Tuesday 7 August at Nailcote Hall in Warwickshire, but the day before, on Monday 6 August, young players will take to the Cromwell Course to fight it out for the chance to play in the tournament. The junior’s day will see 18 players take part with the winning player making it into the event’s main Pro-Am, which takes place on the Wednesday and Thursday of the Championship.

To decide on who the shortlisted 18 players competing for the opportunity will be, a qualifying event for the junior’s day will take place in July. The top eight players will make it to the junior’s day with the remaining ten places filled by invite only. The maximum age for players is 15 years old.

Once again, the event host will be two-time Major winner Tony Jacklin CBE and he discussed the addition of the junior qualifier. He said: “The Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship is dedicated to giving young players the very best platform for success. The junior qualifier is a great opportunity to give these young players the chance to play in a proper tournament environment, something that will stand them in good stead if they are to make a career out of professional golf.”

As well as playing for a place in the event’s Pro-Am, there will also be a team aspect of the day with young players partnered with a professional player as they play on the course. Tony will be one of nine players taking part in this element on the day with more professional players set to be announced in the coming weeks.

Some celebrities and professionals have already been announced for this year’s Championship. These include 1991 Masters champion Ian Woosnam OBE, former Arsenal and Wales footballer John Hartson, ex-Strictly Come Dancing judge Len Goodman and former England international cricketer James Taylor.
