Open Championship sensation, Sam Locke, set to star at Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship

Fresh from his remarkable performance at The Open, one of golf’s brightest young talents, Sam Locke is set to head to Nailcote Hall for this year’s Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship.

The 19-Year-old Scot was the only amateur to make the cut at Carnoustie, and his score of +9 saw him win the prestigious Silver Medal, the prize awarded to the event’s leading amateur. He joins an illustrious list of former players who have won this accolade including Justin Rose, Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods and Jose Maria Olazabal. On the back of this wonderful performance Sam has now turned professional. The youngster, whose dad caddied for him at The Open, has close ties with Paul Lawrie OBE, coming through the former Open winner’s foundation which looks to bring through the next generation of golfing stars. Lawrie is no stranger to the Cromwell Course having played at the Farmfoods British Par 3 Championship in the past, and Sam is now hoping to follow in his footsteps and put in a fantastic performance at the event.

Taking part in this year’s Professional Championship that takes place on Wednesday 8 August – Thursday 9 August, Sam will be hoping to scoop the €50,000 prize on offer to the event winner, in what will be only his second professional event. He will be lining up alongside a whole host of golf legends including 1991 Masters winner Ian Woosnam OBE, 2005 U.S. Open champion Michael Campbell, European Tour star Aaron Rai and Ladies European Tour and LPGA Tour player, Charley Hull.

Back as the Championship’s event host is two-time Major winner Tony Jacklin CBE and he was thrilled to have Sam on board for this year’s event. He said: “Sam is one of golf’s best young players as was demonstrated with the incredible performance he put in at The Open this year. To produce such a magnificent performance in an event as prestigious as the Open shows just how talented he is. We are delighted to have Sam on board for this year’s event and are extremely excited to see him in action.”

A wide range of sponsors and event partners are involved with this year’s event including headline sponsors Farmfoods and event organisers Champions (UK) plc. Other event partners include: Nailcote Hall, Volvik, The Eagle Tour, Sky Sports Golf, Liberty Industries Group, Total Motion, Inspirational Magazine, Finest Catch, Sub70 Golf, Champions Celebrity Talent Agency, VPAR, Champions After Dinner Speakers and Rainbows Hospice for Children and Young People.
