Paul returns to defend his Senior Open title

Defending Senior Open champion Paul Broadhurst will begin his attempt to retain his title at 9.40am tomorrow at Royal Porthcawl in Wales, teeing off with golfing royalty.

Paul’s impressive Order of Merit victory was encapsulated with his win at Carnoustie in 2016, and he will be competing in the first round with five-time Open winner Tom Watson and Ryder Cup star Miguel Angel Jiménez. It’ll be a tough test for Paul, who swept his way to victory last year with, turning over his playing partner Jimenez, in style, before holding his nerve at the last three holes, to par.

Joining Paul at Royal Porthcawl, is European Senior Tour mainstay Gary Wolstenholme MBE, who tees off at 10.50am, alongside Wes Short Jr and Carl Suneson. Gary will be hoping to build on stronger performances of late, at the Swiss Seniors Open. He’ll be hoping to go further than last year, when he placed 27th.

All will be revealed on Sunday 30th July, when the 2017 winner will be crowned.
